HD Q-PAC Packing Bio Trickling Filter Media for Oil Water Separator

Description

HD Q-PAC Packing Bio Trickling Filter Media for Oil Water Separator provide a minimum of 132 square feet of effective coalescing surface area per cubic foot. This surface is primarily composed of parallel rods positioned at a 90° angle relative to the horizontal or longitudinal axis of the separator. This arrangement helps prevent the buildup of solids that could otherwise block channels, increase flow velocities, and lead to unacceptable discharge quality. The rods shall be spaced 3/16” apart to capture at least 99.9% of free oil droplets measuring 20 microns or larger. Laminar flow must be maintained within the separator’s packed bed, with a Reynolds Number below 500, even at maximum flow rate, to avoid oil re-entrainment into the water.

Flow Characteristics

The flow through the polypropylene coalescing media will be in a crossflow orientation, perpendicular to the vertical elements, ensuring that the entire 132 ft²/ft³ of coalescing surface area is utilized to capture rising oil. The coalescing surfaces will be arranged to avoid upward orientation, allowing for full contact with the rising oil droplets. The media will feature a minimum of 87% void volume, enabling the effective removal of sludge and particulates that will fall to the separator’s sludge collection compartment. The media, when installed in a crossflow oil-water separator, shall comply with US EPA Method 1664 Revision A and European Standard EN 858-1 for oil-water separation.

Advantages of HD Q-PAC Packing

Unlike conventional corrugated and inclined plate media, HD Q-PAC offers the highest coalescing efficiency on the market. With its rounded elements, all surfaces are available for oil droplet coalescence, eliminating the need for a secondary polishing stage. HD Q-PAC is specifically designed for separating oil droplets of 20 microns or larger, even in systems with minimal suspended solids. It complies with both EPA Method 1664 and European Standard EN 858-1.

Why Choose HD Q-PAC?

HD Q-PAC provides 132 ft²/ft³ of coalescing surface area, capable of removing over 99.9% of oil droplets 20 microns or larger. It complies with both EPA Method 1664 and European Standard EN 858-1. Unlike conventional media that require secondary polishing to meet effluent standards, HD Q-PAC eliminates this step. Its design, featuring a 90° angle of repose and smooth vertical surfaces with 87% void volume, offers superior self-cleaning capabilities and prevents clogging in high-sludge environments. Furthermore, the polypropylene material allows for operating temperatures up to 212°F (100°C), making it more versatile than traditional coalescing media. The optimized surface design ensures that all surfaces are available for oil collection, enhancing overall performance.
